Annual January Crab Feed
For over thirty five years the Upcountry Rotary Club has hosted an annual Crab Feed at our Lady of the Pines Church in Pioneer. USUALLY, it is the third Saturday in January.

It is not an easy event to organize, with ongoing issues related to the use of Church property for fundraising and insurance requirements, not to mention the annual possibility of heavy snows, which has caused last-minute cancellation in the past. Problems with crab seasons have also led to serving  steaks to hundreds of folks at the last minute instead of crab!

Fortunately, upcountry residents are flexible. Plus, some people say that they come for the clam chowder anyway, which has a secret recipe that requires at least four hours to cook. This annual tradition requires a lot of planning, preparation, and hard work by many of our members. It is a major activity of our club experience, representing the shared tradition and values of our community.

We are grateful to Our Lady of the Pines for working with us each year to ensure its success; we are grateful to all our community and businesses for their generosity with auction items or other donated or discounted supplies; and we absolutely thank all our Crab Feed Attendees for their generosity, merriment, and good cheer!
Car Show/Rib Cookoff/Craft Fair
2023's EVENT IS IN THE BOOKS!

Our small upcountry club had great fun over the past decade with an annual Car Show. Then in 2021, we held an Upcountry Ribs Cookoff which was a lip-smacking success.  We decided to combine those those events into one spectacular, fun Upcountry FUNraiser beginning in September, 2022, that included a car show, rib cook-off, and a craft fair. Something for everyone! Initially we used our local Mace Meadows Golf Course who provided the space on their driving range to park up to 100 custom cars, plus booths for vendors and for the Rib Cookoff Contestants.

With the closure of the golf course, in 2023 we made a bold decision to move the whole show to Pioneer Park on Buckhorn Ridge Road. We worked with ACRA to secure the use of the park. Our Club contributed support to our local Scout Troops,  so that they could earn money for their organization. We offered space to local crafters to sell their wares, too. SUCCESS! Free admission, family-friendly, lots of shade, and full of interesting cars, food, crafts, and goodies.

Those who love cool cars, those with an appetite for ribs, and those who can't resist exciting and interesting crafts, mark the 3rd Saturday in September (usually) for our ANNUAL Car Show and Rib CookOff!

It's a FUN Fundraiser that benefits our Upcountry youth. We apply the proceeds to our annual scholarship programs, as well as our leadership camps/ (RYLA and REGL) programs. Rotary serves!
